Lisa Lopez

Lisa is an expressionist painter with a talent for creating images that appear to have just come to life from the canvas. She believes that art should unfold naturally and should not look forced. Operating on this principle, she enjoys repurposing discarded canvases and frames.

“There’s something incredibly gratifying about giving new life to something that has been under-appreciated,” she says.

Her painting style is expressionist with a hint of childlike realism, drawing inspiration from artists like Rousseau, Magritte, and Van Gogh. While she often finds inspiration in music and nature, she has more recently focused on bringing attention to mental health issues through her new “Emerge” series.

“It’s crucial that we have an outlet to discuss these matters, and if my artwork can spark that conversation, then I’m happy to help facilitate it,” she says.

Lisa studied art throughout her school years and also pursued part-time studies at William Paterson University. She is mainly self-taught and has had the chance to instruct budding artists through her Seedlings Art Classes program. She presently lives in Wantage, NJ, with her husband and daughter.
